Doc In US Donates 14 Acres To Help Feed Poor Students

Honours Late Wife's Wish For Charity

Honouring the wishes of his late wife, an 83-ye-ar-old US-based senior doc-tor, Kishor Ajmere, has decided to donate his 14 acres of prime land in Amravati for a charitable cause to ensure that poor school children get healthy food

This land parcel, just 13km from Amravati city centre, will house a kitchen to prepare meals for school stu-dents, while being used for other charitable purposes.

Rather than sell the pri-meland for a quick commercial gain, Dr Ajmere wants it to be used for feeding children, a gaushala, where cows can be looked after, and also a school.

Dr Ajmere, a 1961 batch medical studentof GMC Nag-pur, has decades of experience spanning India, UK and US. After his wife passed away in 2019, the veteran doctor decided to hang up his professional boots.

"My wife wished to do charity in the field of education, among others. So I decided to gift my ancestral land in Am-ravati for this purpose," said Dr Ajmere, who started his practice in the US in 1975.

For the veteran doctor, donating the Amravati land also means that life has come a full circlefor him. "I was born here," said Dr Ajmere,

"completed my school and college education in Amrava-ti, before getting admission in GMC Nagpur. After MBBS, Idid my residency, MD (inter-nal medicine) and joined the faculty in the same institute," said Dr Ajmere.

After a brief stint with the Central Railways hospital, Dr Ajmere shifted to UK where he was a member of the Royal College of Physicians. "In 1975, I shifted to US and started my practice in Illinois, said Dr Ajmere.

Ever since the mid-70s, Dr Ajmere has been in the US where he built a flourishing medical practice. "I still live in the US as my kids and grandkids are all settled here.

But I keep coming to India, and this time, one of the reasons was for the purpose of finding a suitable organisa-tion to gift my land to," said Dr Ajmere.

Sachin Jahagirdar and Sameer Bendre, who represent US-based NGO Share Our Strength in India, are facilitating this entire deal and project. They will also bepart of a monitoring committee along with Shashi-kant Manapure of Spick&S-pan. Jahagirdar said, "The beneficiary will be Annam-rita Foundation who are already doing great work in midday Meals in india.
